Introduction

Game of Thrones hasn't been on for years, but threezero continues their terrific series of sixth scale figures. They've covered many of the key characters, and hopefully we'll see the characters they've discussed producing finally go up for pre-order. C'mon, Drago!

Sansa Stark is the latest of the Stark kids to get produced, but certainly not any less important than her previously released brethren. While I hope we see them go deep with this series, I have a hunch we'll never get Rickon or Robb, making Sansa the likely last unique Stark child produced.

Sansa just started shipping, and should run you around $190 at most retailers.

Packaging - ***
The heavy box is sturdy, and completely collector friendly. You can remove her and her accessories without any real damage, and always pop her back inside for storage or sale at a later date.

The exterior slip cover sports the house sigel, embossed in the cardboard. The package is attractive and understated, and fits in with the earlier designs.

Sculpting - ***
Sansa is designed to match her look from season 8, an older, wiser, experienced woman who has come into her own as a leader and matriarch figure for the family. She's fairly tall, standing almost 11 3/4 inches, and fits in great with the rest of the series.

The portrait is a very solid likeness, capturing her well enough to be easily recognizable. The round face, the shape of the nose, and the lightly textured skin match with the character on screen. It's not a dead on likeness however, and speaks to the difficulty of capturing attractive people, particularly those who are young. There's no clearly defining feature on the character to work off of, and getting a perfect likeness is all the trickier because of it.

The expression is stern but not extreme. It could use a smidge more emotion to avoid looking blank, but this isn't a character that should be expressing an extreme expression.

The folks at threezero went with a combined sculpt/rooted design for the hair on Sansa, a design that a number of companies have used in the last couple years. This release shows the improvements that have been made over that time. The seam between the two is well hidden, and the real key to why this is the best example so far is in the next section - Paint.

The sculpted section of hair is very detailed, with good stranding and a well defined hair line.

The hands are properly scaled, and come in various useful poses. Overall, the sculpting is decent, but not outstanding.

Paint - ***
The face and hair is where most of the paint work resides. The hair is excellent, the face adequate.

The hairline looks great, and the eyes, eyebrows, and lips are all very clean. The lashes are a little thick, but in hand are less obvious than in macro photos. My biggest issue is with the skin tone, which doesn't have quite the life-like tone and speckling of the best work out there right now. It's decent, but it doesn't take the sculpt to the next level. I suspect a custom paint job by a skilled artist would make a huge difference with the underlying portrait.

But the work on matching the sculpted hair color and the rooted hair color deserves major kudos. This is the area where they have the most trouble when using this technique. Here, they've matched the red tones and the finish between the two, creating a much more seamless appearance in hand. This is a nice compromise between the two when the hairstyle warrants it.

Articulation - **1/2
One area that surprised me a bit was the Articulation. While I did not anticipate putting Sansa in any ninja poses, her upper body is more restricted than I expected.

The neck works great, with plenty of lean and tilt, and of course the rooted long hair poses no restriction. But the shoulders, elbows, and wrists are less mobile than usual. That's not due to the outfit - the sleeves are a soft material. Instead, it's because they went with a seamless body underneath, and the thick skin on the arms means the shoulders can't lift as far as I'd like, and the elbows can't create tight angles. This is pretty important here, where I wanted to be able to hold the included cup and brooch close to her body, but could not.

Obviously the torso is restricted by the thick material of the corset-like vest, but you can still get a little lean and tilt out of it. The hips, knees, and ankles are not restricted, thanks to the loose pants and well sculpted two piece boots.

Accessories - **1/2
The price point on these figures is much better than we are seeing with a number of other companies in the sixth scale market right now, but it does mean they tend to have fewer accessories. At this price, I'm good with that.

Sansa comes wearing a set of relaxed hands. You can swap in a set of fists, a cup gripping left, an open right, and a pinch grip left. These swap easily, and there's a few extra wrist pegs in case.

The odd extra is a small silver brooch. I'm not sure how to attach it to this costume - none of the marketing photos show her wearing it, simply holding it - so it will end up in the extras baggie stored away.

There is also a bronze colored cup, which she can easily hold in the appropriate hand. Oddest extra, which I completely forgot to include in the photos, is a small, rectangular piece of paper, which passes for a 'letter'. Finally, there's a dragonglass dagger, perfect for killing White Walkers.

Outfit - ***1/2
The outfit on this figure is excellent, and easily my favorite overall aspect.

The vest-like armor fits perfectly, snugly tailored around the underlying long sleeve shirt. The soft material of the sleeves covers the wrists in most poses and looks great. The chain necklace is real metal, and looks terrific hanging off the vest.

The skirt is a thin, breezy material, and underneath is a properly tailored pair of pants and a great pair of sculpted two piece boots. These allow the ankles to have full mobility, and they have some nice snow effects added with paint.

The topper is the outer cloak, complete with fur collar and snow effects. It's heavy enough to hang naturally, but thin enough to be in scale.

Overall, the costume looks great, and goes perfectly with her siblings on the shelf.

Fun Factor - ***
Sansa isn't the sort of character that really works great on the shelf by herself. But add in Bran, Arya, and Jon Snow, and you'll have a great set up that you can swap around time and time again. She's also a great figure to go with Tyrion.

Value - **1/2
While I have a few nits to pick, overall the pricing is right. Getting figures like this under $200 means sixth scale collecting won't become a hobby of only the extremely rich, and puts pressure on companies charging $275 and up to produce figures that are outstanding - or lower those prices.

Overall - ***
Like every series, the threezero Game of Thrones line has had its ups and downs. But overall, it's an impressive group on the shelf. While Sansa isn't in my top five, she is a decent release and makes a much needed addition to the Stark family.
