Introduction

I'm going to admit this right up front - I've never played Fortnite. Oh, I was tempted, particularly when I first heard about it, early in its life.  It was just starting to take off, and I though "Sounds like fun!"  But I never got around to it, and then it blew up into a massive cultural phenomenon...and I tend to avoid those.

Still, it does sound like a terrific game, and I'm one to believe that if that many people love something, there's probably a reason for it. Several companies have been producing action figures and toys for the license, in varying styles and scales.  I have marveled at the quality and variety, but haven't picked any up...until I saw a heavily armed banana on the pegs.

This is Peely, so appropriately named. He's been done in various ways as well, but this is the 'legendary' series. These figures are in a 6 - 7" scale, and produced by Jazwares.  I found this guy at a local retailer just before the lock down, and he's a popular character. Expect to pay around $20 depending on the retailer, but he may be tough to find.

Packaging - ***1/2
The packaging is very collector friendly, with no need to destroy or damage anything when removing the figure and accessories. The large window shows off the figure and accessories extremely well, and the text provides some background.

Sculpting - ***1/2
This is a giant banana. How can you not love it? The sculpting isn't detailed, but that's because it's designed to look like the character in the game, with little texture, smooth lines, and a geometric design.

This geometry lends itself nicely to engineering a great looking figure, and let's them create an easy to use swappable face plate. There's a bit of a gap, but it's a minor one, particularly for a mass market toy.

The three faces emote differently of course. One is just wide eyed, while one is winking, and the third is laughing so hard the eyes are squinted shut. This might be a deadly banana, but he's clearly a fun guy too.

He stands about 7" tall, making him one of the larger figures in the series. He's an impressive fruit, and will command some respect among the Marvel Legends.

Paint - ***1/2
As you'd expect, he's a lot of yellow. But the color is generally consistent (although the pins tend to be lighter), and the few painted areas - eyes, mouth, top, exposed interior - are usually clean. There's a blip here and there with the black used for the eyes and mouth, but these slip ups are fairly minor.

There's some brown too, showing a little 'age' on the old skin. The biggest issues are actually with the knees and shoes, where the kneecaps and soles exhibit the most slop.

Articulation - ***1/2
It's good, but one more joint could have made it great.

The arms are pretty much what you expect in terms of rotating hinge shoulder, cut bicep, double pin elbows, and rotating hinge wrists. They added another joint at the shoulder, inside the torso, that allows for greater movement of the arm across the body. We've seen this on occasion with Marvel Legends figures too, and here it helps with the two handed gun poses.

There's a half hand pin too, rather unusual. It was a little annoying to actually work with, and I think this is one of those rare times were I would have just preferred normal sculpted gun grip hands.

The legs include ball hips, double pin knees, cut calves, and pin/rocker ankles that work great.  He can take narrow to deep stances, and has a natural flow.

However, there's no way to turn any part of the head or body. I know a waist or neck joint would break up the smooth lines of the banana, but having a stock straight body limits the potential posing.

Accessories - ****
He comes surprisingly well outfitted for a mass market figure in this scale.

He has two extra face plates, which I mentioned earlier. These swap pretty easily, although there does tend to be a gap where they attach.

He also has a nifty backpack which attaches to his back via a peg. There are three bananas sculpted on this pack. Bear with me, as I have not played the game, but is this dude a cannibal? Or are these something else?

He also has three weapons - a rifle with sling (which he can wear over a shoulder), a shotgun, and a deadly looking home made axe, using what appears to be a stick, a gourd, and a machete. He can hold these neatly in the adjustable hands.

Finally, there's another one of those things I'm sure I would recognize if I regularly played the game but do not -  a funky looking mushroom. There's a hole in one side, as though it's intended to attach to something, but I couldn't find any good place to attach it.

Fun Factor - ****
I bought this guy for one reason - fun. I want to add him to the display of 1/12 figures, because he's a heavily armed banana. C'mon, who could resist?

Value - ***
At around $20, you're paying the average rate for any mass market figure in this scale right now. You're getting a nice dose of extras too, something you don't always see with Marvel Legends of Star Wars Black.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing. He's sturdy and well made, and should stand up to any normal use.

Peely is da man...or da banana, to be more accurate. I have no idea what his story is, but I had to have a killer banana, especially one that's in scale with other 1/12 figures. He's going to make a really fun addition to the display!

I'm assuming that if a complete non-fan such as myself can find him fun, actual fans of the game and character will feel even more love. He's well articulated, well designed, and comes packing a nice set of accessories. I'd say he's a winner all around!
