Introduction
There have been lots of versions of Killer Croc in the Batman universe, both in the books and on screen, small and large. But my favorite is the design from Batman The Animated Series, which shouldn't be much of a surprise. The show features just about every best character design ever.
Diamond Select has been doing some terrific - and cheap! - mini-busts based on the show. Their latest release is the Croc, is a limited edition of
3000, and will run you around $50 at most retailers right now.
Packaging - ***
Nothing special here, but there is a Certificate of Authenticity, and the package keeps everything safe and sound. It's all collector friendly too.
Sculpting - ***1/2
The recent releases from DST in this line have all been excellent, and this guy continues the trend. He's big, not quite as big as the earlier
Clayface or Man-bat, but much bigger than the average character.
The pose is dynamic, and dangerous. He's cut off a little below the waist, to allow them to include his trademark jeans. His grin is pure violence, with the expression carried into the set of the face and eyes. The ridges look good, and there's nice detail in the teeth, nose and eyes. The base matches the rest of the series, using the art deco style of Gotham on the show.
They've captured the look of the character on screen extremely well, which can be tough with a 2D cartoon. He rivals the work on the two villains I mentioned previously, both of which were outstanding.
Paint - ***
There is a lot of green skin tone, but it's generally clean and consistent. There's a few spots where it looks like there's dirt or smudges, but
they're minor. The eyes are quite clean, but the teeth could be a little sharper, with a sharper edge along the lips. Considering the price point,
none of these issues are a deal breaker in any way, and I actually think this one is an improvement over a few of the past releases.
Value - ***1/2
These busts have remained very cheap, while the overall quality has improved. To get a mini-bust of this size and weight, with this sort of quality
sculpt, for $50 is practically a steal on today's market.
Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing.
Overall - ***1/2
This is another solid release, and I'm very happy with Killer Croc. It's a great looking bust, and fits in perfectly with the rest. The price point
is crazy good too, something I don't get to say very often. I'm really happy with this series, and I hope they continue to crank out the
villains. I will pick up everyone they do, even the Condiment King. Bring them on!
