Introduction

The Netflix Marvel series might be in the books at this point, but that never means they're done in the world of collectibles. Mezco already produced a One:12 Collective Daredevil based on his appearance in the show (and in his initial outfit too), and they have just started shipping the respective Punisher.

This guy will run you around $80, which is currently the average going price for a standard One:12 figure. There's no exclusives or special editions at this point.

Packaging - ***
The usual high quality box, with simple yet effective graphics. It mirrors the look of the symbol on the show, and has not one but two different text locations informing you this is the Netflix version. There aren't any instructions, but you won't need any, and the figure and accessories can easily be removed without any damage to the packaging - truly collector friendly.

Sculpting - ***1/2
When it comes to the accuracy of the likeness, in hand varies a bit from in photos, at least for me.

Part of that is because of the scale.  This guy is just 6 1/2" tall, making his head very small. The detail is excellent, with a natural skin texture and hair pattern. The realism rivals work in sixth scale at much higher prices.

The lifelike emotive quality is very high as well, with a stern, pissed look that fits the tv character perfectly. It works with a wide variety of poses and stances, and of course there's two portraits as well. The differences between the two aren't extreme, but one is more 'battle damaged', and has a slightly different expression with an open mouth.

Accuracy is excellent in hand. Both portraits look just like Bernthal as the character, and it's the work in the nose, forehead, and lips that do it. In hand, I couldn't be happier.

In macro photos, he does look slightly off. I think it's the shape of the head, slightly off around the jawline, that isn't obvious unless you see it blown up. But this is a really, really minor nit, and one most folks won't have an issue with.

Paint - ****
The paint work is terrific, as is the standard for the series. Both figure have a super clean hairline, not easy to do with the rough hair edge along the forehead. The lips, eyebrows, and beard stubble look excellent, subtle and clean, and the bloody wounds and damage look very realistic.

Another key to the overall appearance is the paint work on the skull on the vest. It's extremely well done, managing to look 'homemade' without being sloppy. It adds to not just this score, but the Outfit score as well.

Articulation - ***1/2
The underlying body hasn't changed, but this outfit is far less restrictive than some.

The ball jointed neck works well, and this time the head and neck are a single piece. The rotating hinge shoulders, elbows, and wrists can take reasonable arm poses, but I'm never going to be a fan of these single joint elbows. They simply can't get as tight as real elbows, and some poses suffer for it.

The torso is the only constricted area, thanks to the vest. It's not terrible though, and it's no more so than an actual vest like this would restrict you.

The hips, knees, and ankles are quite free to move, and yes, I said ankles. These two piece boots have excellent rocker movement, something that varies from release to release.

There's also a wire in the edge of the coat and the collar, which I'll be discussing further in the Outfit section.

Accessories - ***1/2
He's nicely outfitted, but I will say I was a little surprised he didn't have more weapons.

There's the two heads we already discussed, and getting more than one portrait is always a big plus for this category.

There are also three extra sets of hands to go with the fists he comes wearing: tight grips, gun grips, and loose grips. They swap easily, and stayed on when I was posing him.

Now let's talk weaponry. There's two handguns - a pearl handled 1911 style pistol, and a revolver. The slide moves on the pistol, the cylinder turns on the revolver, quite impressive for this scale. There's an extra magazine for the pistol as well.

There's a Gatling gun too, including a silver ammo magazine that attaches to the side. The gun looks fantastic, and yes, the barrels can revolve. For something a bit more 'close range', he has a Kabar style knife.

There are two 'blast' effects that can be attached to any of these three guns. One effect is a single bullet, while the other is three bullets fired in quick succession. They make for an dynamic addition to the display.

Finally, there's the usual display stand that includes the large, clear plastic display rod. You can use it for leaping and jumping poses, or you can skip it and just use a foot peg for standing poses.

Outfit - ****
I really like 90% of this outfit - really like it - and there's one big reason.

It's the vest, or more accurately, the fit of the vest. Sure, it looks great, with an excellent sculpt and paint job. But this is the first time I've ever had a vest on a figure in this scale that didn't want to ride up on the shoulders. It fits down snug on both sides and stays there, and that makes a huge difference in the realistic appearance of the overall outfit.

The vest includes a sheath for the knife in back, the only one of his weapons he can carry on his person. No holsters for the handguns.

The underlying shirt and pants are well tailored, with good stitching and quality materials. I already mentioned the two piece boots, which work better this time around.

So that's the 90% I love, and that's the way I'll be displaying him. He also comes with his outer leather coat, which includes wires on the front edges and around the collar. The fit of the coat is quite good, and I have no complaints there. It's all about the collar, which I think is too large.  I had trouble getting it to lay flat in a reasonable way, and it puffed up or curled in weird ways.  You might have better luck by laying it out and flattening it with the wire, then put a weight on it for a few hours (or more) to get it to stay nice and flat on the shoulders and chest.

Since I couldn't get a look I liked with the collar down, I just flipped it up. It's still too big (and I don't ever remember him doing that), but at least it looks a little less awkward. For me, I'll be going without the coat.

Fun Factor - ***1/2
With good articulation and a decent number of accessories, you should have lots of fun posing and re-posing this guy.  And while he might not have many Netflix counterparts, you can add him to the Punisher display and he'll fit right in.

Value - **1/2
He's $80, which has been the average One:12 price for the last year. It's ten bucks more than I'd love, but it's still an average value considering the cost of other high end figures in this scale.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not much. You do want to take lots of care with the blast effects, because the small posts that fit inside the barrels are very tiny. Too much pressure, and you can snap them off.

Overall - ***1/2
I was disappointed with the Netflix Daredevil, but this figure is a big improvement. The costume looks terrific, and both portraits are very accurate and realistic in hand.

I don't mind not getting an Iron Fist, and I can even live without Luke Cage if I have to. But I'm really disappointed there's been no Jessica Jones, and it leaves a hole in my collection.
