Introduction

Nerds own a lot of toys. I should know. But they also own houses, and in recent years, they are much more inclined to let their geek flag fly, decorating their domiciles with items from their favorite movies and tv shows. But finding high quality items that are more than just kitcsh and actually serve a purpose can be difficult. Thanks to Regal Robot, the situation is improving.

Regal Robot creates themed items - furniture and decor - for your home. Almost all the items are made to order, and while some are standard catalog items, they also have a custom shop that will work with you to produce some truly unique pieces. If anyone is wondering what to get me for Christmas, the Emperor's Throne Chair would be perfect.

They focus on Star Wars right now (although they are branching out, and already have some cool non-licensed type stuff, like the T-Rex footprint wall art), and have a series of bar (or 'cafe') tables with top designs you'll recognize - a Death Star, the Holochess board, the Deathstar Countdown Display, and tonight's review: the Carbonite Chamber!

This table is made to order, and will cost $299 plus shipping.

It comes in a brown box - big surprise there!  But it was all safe and sound, well packed, and should get to you without issue. The shipping cost is a flat $75 for the continental U.S. There are clear instructions included, and assembly of the three pieces shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Construction/Materials - ****
They make the tables in two sizes - normal table height of 30", or pub height of 40". I went with the 40" height, to fit in with the rest of my bar furniture. You'll see a photo at the beginning of the review with this table next to another pub table made by a different manufacturer (Go Green!) and you should note it is exactly the same in height.

The pedestal and feet are metal, black and very, very sturdy.  The assembly is simple, and maintains the sleek look. The top itself is 27" in diameter - also pretty standard for pub style tables.

The top is a printed image, encased in a hard clear laminate material. The surface will withstand pretty much any abuse, and won't be affected by spilled drinks, splattered food, or sloppy drunks. It cleans up nicely, with no streaking.

The outside edge is rounded, with a hard plastic silver cover.  Again, this is pretty standard for pub tables, and should hold up over time. If it were to be ever damaged, it's fairly easy to replace, assuming it's attached in a standard manner. The pedestal is quite sturdy, and should give you many years of care free service. NOTE: The "chrome" edging you see on mine is an optional feature. It comes with a black edging normally, and the silver is a special request option.

The printed image is the main story of course, and they did a terrific job. The printed image looks fantastic, and as a special plus, works pretty well as a sixth scale base. No, it's not a perfect scale, but it's close enough that I may use it for upcoming photos with appropriate subject matter. I particularly love how the smoke effect looks almost three dimensional, and the high gloss finish reflects the light.

Value - **1/2
Regular readers know that a score here of **1/2 means you're getting what you're paying for, and the score won't effect my personal Overall either up or down.

The table will run $300, plus shipping. I've paid $250 for other licensed pub tables, but those were licenses that were much cheaper...and the tables were mass produced, not made to order. The pricing here seems about right for the market and for the quality.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing.

Overall - ****
I'm always looking for new licensed goodies to decorate my bar. Finding good furniture, well built and made to last, that also fulfills my geeky nature can be almost impossible. I'm really loving what Regal Robot is doing here, and the custom made feel at mass market prices is very attractive.

Another advantage to something like this - your S.O. is less likely to find it too geeky. They may not know that's the floor of the Carbonite Chamber, but they won't care either, because the table is attractive even without the nerdy knowledge. And you'll know who your true friends are, because when they see it they'll give you that knowing smile.

As you can see in the final photo, Darth Vader approves.
