Introduction
Fans of the game Apex Legends take heart - Weta Collectibles has you covered. They've produced a series of figures and vinyl statue based on the game, including this rendition of Lifeline.
Ajay Che is a Legend, and as you can imagine from her nickname Lifeline, she's got various healing abilities. This statue, standing about 9 inches tall, has her leaning back against one of her DOC's (Drone of Compassion).
This vinyl statue will run you around $100, depending on the retailer. Mine came from Entertainment Earth, where they carry all the Weta goodies.
Packaging - ***
These come in large boxes, with lots of space between the statue and
the outside world. It's definitely going to keep them safe during
shipping and storage, and it's collector friendly, requiring just a
few cuts on some tape to free her. But it's on the wasteful side as
well, if you're considering the environmental impact.
Sculpting - ***1/2
They've captured the character extremely well, combining aspects of
her abilities with her in-game personality. The statue is a medium
size, coming in at about 9" tall including the base. It's all one
piece, with no assembly required and nothing to add or remove.
The sly expression looks great, and the relaxed pose against the DOC works nicely. The DOC itself has a ton of detail, and I love the use of translucent plastic in certain areas.
There's a ton of small detail too, although some of it's a bit rough. There's a variety of textures, used to differentiate between skin, cloth, metal, etc.
Paint - ****
The paint work is extremely well done, with clean lines and tiny
details everywhere. There's a nice broad palette too, recreating the
game look nicely.
There's even some dirt and smudges, creating a more realistic - yet still video game - look. The eyes are sharp, the bright colors are consistent, and the finishes match the material they are trying to mimic. No shiny skin, no dull metal. This is a terrific example of the sort of work Weta is capable of.
Value - **
This is a mid sized statue, bigger than something like the Batman
Black and White series, but not quite up there with the sixth scale
stuff. The $100 price tag isn't too far out of line, but it is
slightly above average for the market, resulting in a slightly lower
than average value score.
Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing.
Overall - ***1/2
If you have a Apex Legends fan on your Christmas list, these statues
from Weta are a perfect gift. Great sculpting and beautiful paint,
they won't ge disappointed. They've produced five or six so far, and hopefully there's more
to come.
