Introduction

With the release of the Gal Gadot Wonder Woman film, and her roles in other DC movies, the character has become one of the top three DC heroes at the theater. With that comes many collectibles of course, and much plastic notoriety.

But what about fans of her classic look? Those who loved the the Linda Carter television version, or the older comic book designs? Have no fear, Mezco has released their 'classic' version. While it's their own design, it leans heavily on the style of earlier concepts.

This one was a Mezco store exclusive, and is long sold out of course. She was originally $90, but at this point you'll have to pay a slight premium to pick her up on the secondary market.

Packaging - ***1/2
The packaging uses the classic logo with a bright white background. It has a retro feel, and is very collector friendly of course. The cardboard seemed a little thinner to me this time, but I might be imagining it. There's an exclusive sticker on the front, although the very different graphics make it clear this isn't the same Wonder Woman.

Sculpting - ***1/2
There are two heads included with the figure. She comes wearing a stoic, closed mouth expression, while the second head sports an angrier look with a slightly open mouth.

I really like the portrait she comes wearing. It's serious and bad ass without being overtly dynamic. The second portrait is good, but probably not my go to. I do think the detail in the teeth is amazing - remember, these are just 1/12 scale, making her just under 6 1/2" tall. Even the lips have an appropriate skin texture!

These sculpts do remind me of both Linda Carter and the 70's/80's comic book look. I think they've managed to create a 'classic' appearance that will appeal to fans of the earlier designs of the character.

On both heads, I think the hair could be a tad more detailed. We've seen them do a better job on some other sculpts, and the hair strands are on the thick side this time. But that's a relatively minor nit with an otherwise impressive sculpting job.

Paint - ****
Clean paint operations are a hallmark of this line. You can see the attention to detail in the sharp lines on the costume and the minute details of the face. The eyes are even, the eyebrows follow the sculpted edges perfectly, the lips are excellent, and even the teeth are even and well defined for this scale. Those are some itty bitty teeth!

Gold is a tough color to work with too, as it is hard to get good, consistent, even coverage. They do an excellent job with the color here, from the costume to the accessories.

In photos, the plastic shoulder discs can look slightly different than the softer, more porous skin of the arms and chest, but in hand it's not possible to notice.

Articulation - ***1/2
There's no surprises here, if you've bought other One:12 female characters.

The long hair does restrict the tilt and lean of the neck a bit, but it was less than I expected. The hair is sculpted slightly away from the body, allowing for more movement.

The rotating hinge shoulders work well, and while I don't love the rotating hinge elbows, they do allow for movement across the body. The wrists work well, and swapping hands was a breeze.

The leg articulation is all right there for you to see - ball hips, cut thighs, rotating hinge knees, and rotating hinge ankles. You can get some rocker movement out of the two piece boots, although it can take a little effort to get the ball of the joint in just the right spot.

The torso is not moving much, due to the hard armor. You can get just a bit of turn, and even less tilt.

It's also worth noting that the included cape has a long wire that allows you to pose it in various dynamic ways.

Accessories - ****
She's nicely outfitted, as are most One:12 figures.

I've already mentioned the two heads, which swap easily. There are also eight hands in total - she comes wearing a set of fists, and there are relaxed hands and two sets of slightly different gripping hands in the box. These swap easily, but remained in place while I was working with the other accessories.

Of course, she has to have her Sword of Athena, shield, and Lasso of Truth. She actually has two of the lasso, one coiled which can be placed in the loop on the right side of her costume, and one that is made from a sturdy wire and can be posed in any way you'd like.

The shield and sword have great sculpts and clean paint jobs as well, and fit neatly in her hands. You can also slip the sword into another loop on the left side of her costume.

To round out the Amazonian weaponry, she also comes with a deadly spear and battle axe. Again, the sculpts and paint work here are terrific, with a ton of surface detail. The scale is good, and she looks great wielding them.

There's also a cape, but I'll be discussing that in greater detail in the next section.

Finally, she has the usual display base (with the old school Wonder Woman logo) which can be used with either a foot peg or the large, clear plastic support rod.

Outfit - ***
Much of the outfit is sculpted, which may remind some folks too much of a all plastic action figure. But the design and quality are well above anything you'll find from a standard toy maker.

The torso armor is plastic, with a detailed sculpt. It obviously takes away most of the waist and chest articulation, but I love the design. There's some elements that cover both the old and new look of the character, while emoting an overall retro feel.

The shorts have a similar design, with the white stars on a blue cloth. And yes, the shorts are a cloth over plastic, with a couple different textures.

I also like the boot/shin armor sculpt, which allows for good ankle articulation while looking realistic.

My big issue is with the two loops of leather, one for the sword and one for the lasso. I'm worried that over time it's going to be too easy to damage them.

Finally, there's the cape. It's a soft, velvety material, and the wire allows for posing. I couldn't quite get it to lay around around the shoulders the way I wanted, but I think that working with it more will eventually result in the look I'm going for.

Fun Factor - ***1/2
With good articulation and plenty of extras, you'll have no trouble finding lots of poses, both resting and battle. I can see this one being a figure you return to over and over again, adjusting her look on the shelf based on the other figures around her.

Value - **
Most One:12 regular release figures are $80 these days, and this 'exclusive' was $10 above that. While I fully appreciate charging the additional money for an exclusive, and the likely lower production run, I'm still not quite feeling where the extra $10 went.  At $80, I would have gone with the normal **1/2 (average value) score.

Things to Watch Out For -
I am a little worried about those leather loops on her costume. The attachment for the lasso loop could tear, and the sword loop can be damaged by the blade itself, particularly over time. Take some care with both.

Overall - ***1/2
Another terrific release in the One:12 series that combines the Mezco style with a classic DC look. This figure will fit in nicely with some of the Batman releases, as well as the classic Superman.
