Introduction
The
following is a guest review. The review and photos do not
necessarily reflect the opinions of Michael Crawford or Michael's
Review of the Week, and are the opinion and work of the guest author. A
guest review of Hawgirl statue from the DC Bombshells series by DC
Collectibles:
The most recently released
statue of the DC Bombshells line produced by DC Collectibles is the
much anticipated Hawkgirl. Continuing in the theme of 1940s and 1950s
pinup art, she was designed by Ant Lucia and sculpted by Tim Miller.
Her edition size is 5200 and measures approximately 10.25” tall.
I’ve been a big fan of the style of the Bombshells series, and I must
say Hawkgirl is one of my favorites.
This Golden Age character retains her classic yellow and green color
scheme, but traded in her wings and headdress for a jetpack and helmet.
She is shipping now, and can be found in the $100 price range.

Packaging

She arrived well packed in an attractive box. The front, and one side
of the box boasts close up pictures of her, the other side
shows the original Bombshell artwork, and the back advertises Holiday
Harley Quinn and Mera. I would’ve liked the original artwork to have
been given more room and displayed on the back of the box.

Sculpting
- ****
As I said earlier, Hawkgirl is one of my favorites of the line. She is
an extremely faithful representation of the artwork, with the only
noticeable difference is the loss of her dog tags. Although this is a
stylized version of the character, there’s no doubt of who she
is.
Her base acts nicely as a
launching pad, with her name plaque being a separate piece held in
place by magnets. She is posed as if she’s just taking off, resting on
the tips of her toes. The metal rods fit in snug and keep her in place.
The smoky jet propulsion effect works well with a glimmer of yellow
flame showing through, from the base of the pack.
The winged (of course) jet pack
is wonderful, with decos of “The Hammer” and her mace on both
sides. Her helmet has a strong resemblance of her winded
headdress, and looks great with her hair peeking out.
One of my favorite design
elements is the whimsical bubble she’s blowing. The material they used
looks remarkably life-like.

Paint
- ****
I was thoroughly impressed with the paint job on mine. Her intricate
boots were sharp and clean, her face is lovely, and there was a lot of
attention paid to her jetpack, including a number of tampo decals, two
of which were of her aforementioned mace.

Value

Sure she’s only 10+ inches tall, and will set you back $100, but you’re
getting a quality piece of artwork for that price. I don’t have deep
pockets, but feel she’s well worth the price.

Things
to Watch Out For
-
I had no issue with mine, but since paint can vary, always keep an eye
out for a nice crisp representation if you have the opportunity.

They hit a homerun with Hawkgirl. From the nice box art, to the fun
design art, and the amazing statue that came out of that artwork, I
think she’d make a great edition to many a collection. I wan to add
this little side story, when I was unboxing her, my wife, who is not a
big fan of my collection, said, “Now that is a nice statue!”.
