Introduction
This is a bit of an odd review tonight, and I have to back into the concept a bit, so stay with me.
Mezco is hosting a VIP party
for the new book, The
Art of Living Dead Dolls. The party will be held on October 10th (during NYCC), and hosted by Ripley's
Believe It Or Not.
To go along with this, Mezco and Ripley's have teamed up to create three very cool, large collectible coins. On the back of
all three coins is an image of the Mezco mascot, while the face is one of three classic Ripley's images.
If you purchase this set of three coins, you get free admittance to the book party at Ripley's. Each coin is limited to just
300 produced.
But wait - there's more! Randomly inserted in the packaged coins are 3 (one for each style) special 'gold' versions. If
you're lucky enough to get one of these gold coins, you'll be eligible to win a collection of merchandise valued at more
than $502, and one of the three winners will receive a prize package worth more than $1007!

Packaging - **1/2
I received each coin in a small black plastic case, with a foam insert that holds the coin safely. Nothing on the exterior
of the case indicates what's inside or who's behind it. However, word is that this will be very different for the final
release, with something a bit fancier.

Quality - ****
These are very large coins, measuring almost 1 3/4" in diameter. They are also very heavy and thick, quite substantial and
quite unlike standard coins. I included a shot with the 15" Mezco Chucky to give you some idea, but also take advantage of
the Lifesizer feature above to get a feel for how big these are.
The quality of embossing and paint is exceptional. The raised images and letters look terrific, done in the Mezco style.
The paint feels like an enamel finish, very smooth and cool to the touch. Fans of all things Ripley's will love these, and
creating a very limited collectible like this that ties in with both companies AND the release of the LDD book was smart
move.

Paint - ***1/2
As I mentioned in the quality section, the enamel paint looks terrific, and has a very classy feel. My only nit is that on
the back, with the Mezco mascot, there's some minor issues. The color looks off on one pincher, matching the background
rather than his skin, and I had a small nick on the 'W'. The nick I can live with - it was probably my fault anyway - but
the color mistake holds them back from a perfect score.

Value - **1/2
I'm going with an average value score at $50 for the set of three, largely because this is a rather unique collectible.
Along with getting the coins, you're getting a chance at a substantial Mezco/Ripley's prize pack, making it tough to assess
this in the usual way. Your odds are 1 in 300 of winning - way better than most raffles!

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing.

Overall - ****
Kitschy collectibles like this always excite me. If you're an LDD collector, it's nice to have something different to add to
the display that generates conversation and looks this good. Even better if you can buy the set and make it to the party -
you'll have tales to tell of your time with Mez!
