Introduction
Mezco's One:12 Collective series continues to bang on stronger than ever, with terrific releases and new pre-orders coming out on a regular schedule. The latest figure to ship is the highly anticipated Wonder Woman, based on a modern theme with Mezco's own personal flair.
This figure is the third Wonder Woman they've done, with a previous
'classic' design, and a Gal Gadot version from the films. This
release was around $85 at retail, although the price has risen
dramatically on the secondary market.
Packaging - ***
The gold color is eye catching, and the graphics reflect the modern
aesthetic. Everything is contained in two plastic trays, very
collector friendly and very safe. It's not as nice as their special
work for exclusives, but fits in with their traditional regular
release packaging.
Sculpting - ****
There are two portraits, as you'd rightly assume. One is calm, with
a lock of hair spilling out of her head band over her forehead. The
second is definitely pissed, with a more dynamic hair sculpt.
Both have a very good, non-descript Amazonian look. This is probably how most people see a generic Wonder Woman, with strong bone structure, sharp eyebrows, and well defined flowing black hair. Both expressions are useful, but I find the more dynamic version my preference. They swap easily too, making it a breeze to change up her look.
The armor is sculpted as well, with tons of surface detail and texture. Again, while this isn't specific to any one particular version, it's definitely Wonder Woman, and emotes all the attitude and intensity of the character.
It's also worth noting the body, which has better proportions than most female figures on the market. The arms, legs, torso - it all has a more realistic, strong female appearance.
She stands about 6 1/2" tall, fitting in nicely with the male figures in the series.
Paint - ****
The paint work is immaculate, with clean lines on the armor, and
perfect eyes, eyebrows, and lips on the faces. The production paint
work here is as good as what we see with high end figures twice this
scale and more than double the price.
Articulation - ***1/2
The body isn't just well proportioned - it's very articulated and
posable. The ball jointed neck doesn't have quite as much tilt and
lean of course, thanks to the long sculpted hair. But it was much
more than I expected, thanks to the way the sculpt flows around the
shoulders, and it was a pleasant surprise.
The shoulders, arms and wrists work well, even with the single rotating hinge elbow. While these elbows don't have quite the same range of movement as the double pin versions, they certainly look better, and she was able to take most battle poses with the weapons easily.
The one restricted area - as you might expect - is the torso, since the plastic armor takes away any crunch and most other movement. The hips, knees, and ankles work great though, and the cut thigh joint comes in handy for some deeper stances. The ankles have decent rocker movement too, allowing you to keep them flat on the floor in most poses.
As an extra benefit, the included cape has a wired edge. While this helps with dynamic poses of course, it also helps in static, simple stances where the cloth might not be heavy enough to hang naturally on its own. The wire allows you to get it just where you want it and keep it there.
Accessories - ***1/2
We've been spoiled by some One:12 releases. While she has a nice
assortment, it's not the crazy amount of extras we sometimes get.
There's the two heads of course, which is critical for the series. As I mentioned earlier, both are terrific, and swap easily.
There's a nice assortment of hands too, to go along with the fists she comes wearing. There's a relaxed set, as well as a couple gripping sets, and these swap easily as well.
Wonder Woman has to have her shield, which slips on the forearm smoothly. She also has her trademark lasso of truth, in a sculpted rolled up version (which you can attach to her belt on the right side), and a wired extended version.
To battle evil, she has three weapons. There's her sword of course, and you can slip it inside a loop on the left side of her belt. There's a spear and doubled bladed axe as well, and the sculpting and paint work on all of these is excellent.
This version comes with some additional armor you can use, or skip, depending on your preference. There is a very cool necklace, as well as two pieces of shoulder armor. I found the shoulder armor a little annoying to work with, but the neck piece looks great with or without them.
I almost overlooked them, but she also has three cool bullet effects, which can attach to her gauntlets via a magnet. They are tiny and lightweight, so the magnet has no trouble keeping them in place securely.
She also comes with the red cape, but I'll be discussing that as part of the Outfit section.
Finally, there's the usual display base, which can be used with either a simple foot peg or the larger clear plastic support rod.
Outfit - ***1/2
One:12 figures are generally mixed media - plastic, leather, metal,
cloth. While most of Wonder Woman's outfit - boots, gauntlets,
breastplate - is sculpted, she does have a couple cloth items.
The skirts are a pleather material, printed with a cool design. They are layered as well, and look terrific. I do wish they were just a smidge longer, which would allow them to flow slightly better.
There's also the cape I mentioned earlier. Obviously you can use this or not at your pleasure. It fits around the neck, and flows in just about any pose thanks to the included wire along the edge. The edge itself is a little thick for the scale, but it's a minor nit.
Fun Factor - ****
With the included extras and the better than expected articulation,
this is a really fun figure. Add her to your other DC and Marvel
comic themed One:12 figures and she'll be right at home.
Value - **1/2
I'm assuming you were smart and pre-ordered her, based on the
quality of the other two Wonder Woman figures Mezco produced. That
means you paid $85, which is about the standard rate for any
release. It's a little high - I prefer the $80 price point - but you
are getting some really amazing production quality.
Things to Watch Out For -
Take a little care inserting the sword into the loop on the belt.
Otherwise, everything is sturdy and well made, and you should have
no issues.
Overall - ****
Is this the best One:12 Wonder Woman Mezco has produced? Absolutely.
The lessons learned from previous releases have been applied here,
and the modern design really shines. Is it the best One:12 female
figure they've produced? That's an argument you can certainly make.
While they've done some really nice female figures, they've all had
one issue or another that held them back. This is one case where she
is as close to perfect as they are likely to get.

You can join the wait list at the Mezco store, where she is $85. She is pretty
much sold out at all the usual spots, so searching
ebay for a deal is your best option.
