Introduction

Quantum Mechanix has several new Q-Figs hitting very soon, and I'm lucky enough to be checking out one tonight. This is an early review - expect this guy to start hitting very soon.

Based on a terrific Elseworlds style story, Batman The Last Knight On Earth captures our hero in a dystopian future, where nothing is what it was. This Q-fig gives us Bats in his unique "fresh from Arkham" style, bringing along his guide, the head of the Joker.

As I said, this guy isn't quite shipping yet, but will be soon. Expect to pay around $30 at most retailers.

Packaging - ***1/2
The packaging is sturdy and collector friendly, with some nifty graphics and cute text. I wish you could actually see the Q-Fig inside, but that's a minor nit with an otherwise attractive and functional package.

Sculpting - ****
If you didn't read the comic, you're going to be wondering just what you're looking at here. Yes, that's a straight jacket he's wearing, turned into a bad ass style coat. Yes, the cowl is made from straps and buckles. And yes, that's very much the living yet disembodied head of the Joker he's carrying in that glass case. If you find this intriguing, great - go check out the comic!

The detail work on the figure is quite nice for this scale and price point. He's just 4" tall, including the small base. It's a one piece statue, no articulation, and nothing can be removed.

The bell jar he's carrying contains a very cool Joker, one that still speaks but is clearly no longer part of a full person. He's smiling maniacally, just like you'd expect. Batman has a grim look of determination, also as you'd expect. There's even some variations in texture, adding a little realism to the cartoon style sculpts. These will fit in nicely with the other Q-Figs, both in style and size.

Paint - ***
The paint work is solid for something this small, but there are a few blips here and there.

I love the dusty but clear glass of the bell jar. The dusty effect makes sense based on the story, and yet you can clearly see the Joker behind the creeping ooze. Most of the cut lines are clean, and the colors are generally consistent in coverage and finish.

Mine has a slight smudge on the lower edge of Batman's nose. There's also a few spots where colors have bled slightly, or the edge lines aren't perfectly straight, but again, at this scale it's solid work.

Fun Factor - ***
I usually don't give statues like this a 'fun' factor, simply because there's only so much you can do with them. You can't pose them, so you're pretty limited. However, when you have a statue that fits in with a larger collection, there's more fun to be had with completing the set and creating interesting displays of varying groups.

Value - **1/2
At $30, he's pretty consistent with the going rate for online only figures and statues, even ones in this scale. The general quality of the material and sculpt are certainly good enough to justify the price point.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing. It's sturdy, and because it's made from their special blend of polymers, there's no fear of breakage.

Overall - ***1/2
By using their own formulation for their material, Qmx is getting a very sharp sculpt out of these figures. The paint is also absorbing nicely, giving the figures a depth to the colors and coverage.

We probably aren't going to see many collectibles based on this, so the big Batman fans should take particular note. I'm hoping we see a Batman Black and White statue, but until then, this cute little guy will be more than satisfactory.
