Introduction

Hiya Toys continues their terrific series of 1/18 scale action figures based on the game Injustice 2. The latest release is a ThinkGeek exclusive, and includes variations on their Batman, Superman, and Harley figures. All three will cost you about $20 each, and should be available soon.

Packaging - ***
The boxes are quite collector friendly, but there are a couple pieces of tape you'll have to ditch. These hold in the tiniest accessories. Otherwise, there's nothing to damage when you remove the figure and accessories, and the large window on the front shows off the figure nicely. There's an exclusive sticker too, just in case you forget.

Sculpting - ***1/2
The portraits are the same with these versions, but they're still great work considering the scale. Remember, these are just 1/18, which puts Harley at just under 4", and Superman and Batman at almost 4 1/2". Batman and Superman are about the same height if you include Bat's ears. The head sculpts are very clean and sharp for this size, and the detail work on the costumes is excellent.

Superman has two heads - a smiling extra head and his standard stoic expression. Both have his trademark hair curl, and while they are based on the game, they are also generic enough to stand on their own. His suit doesn't have a ton of detail, but there are textures and grooves, and the soft cloth cape works great.

Batman has a pissed off look, with arched eyebrows on the cowl. Again, the detail work is good, and they added some battle damage on the armor as part of the sculpt itself. He also has a soft cloth cape, and it hangs cleanly off his shoulders in most poses.

Harley has the most detail work, especially on the costume. With various buckles and belts, as well as holsters and elbow/knee pads, she has the most complex outfit, and the sculpt is clean and neat. I did have one issue that was minor however. The epaulets on her shoulders are a very soft rubber, and the one on the left was pushed up into a weird position in the package. I'm going to have to use some heat and then a cold bath to get it to lay flat.

Paint - Batman, Superman **; Harley **1/2
Unfortunately, the paint work is fairly hit and miss this time. All the standard faces look great, although the paint dipped pony tails on Harley are a bit wonky. The eyes, lips, and skin tone looks good on the three faces, and while the smiles are a little plain (there's no sculpted teeth), there's also no slop.

The costumes are a bit less impressive. Both Superman and Batman have a heavy wash to add dirt, grime, and detail. It's too heavy handed on both of them, and on Batman in particular it goes from battle damaged to simply sloppy.

Perhaps the worse issue is with Superman's belt - what's up with the design on the front? It looks more like a third grade school project than a production figure.

Still, it's worth noting that these are 4" tall figures, and they have more paint operations than most figures in this scale.

Articulation - Harley ***; Batman, Superman ***1/2
The articulation here matches what we saw with these same figures previously. The ball jointed neck works well, and the rotating hinge shoulders and elbows allow for reasonable arm poses. I can't get quite as much bend in the elbows as I'd like with Superman and Batman due to the suit design, but it's reasonable. Harley's elbow and knee pads do not create much of a damper on the movement.

The wrists are ball joints, but the post is so short that it really works as a cut joint. The hands swap easily. The rolling torso gives the upper body good lean and tilt movement, and the ball hips, double pin knees, and rotating hinge ankles have a ton of movement. The legs work better than the arms on both Superman and Batman, but poor Harley has some issues with the thighs. Her body design does not allow for the same amount of rotation or bend.

Accessories - ***1/2
You're getting the same goodies as before with some color changes.

Batman has four extra hands, designed to grip various other accessories. They swap easily, but do tend to pop off when you're working with him.

He also has three tiny batarangs, with bronze highlights.  And of course, there's the grappling gun, based on the game design.

Superman has the extra head I mentioned, which goes a long way to boosting his score here. I love it when we get additional portraits. He has two fists as well to swap for the open hands he comes wearing.

Harley has a set of gripping extra hands too, perfect for the bat and mallet. These weapons look great, and are nicely scaled. The hands she comes wearing work well with the pair of blue guns, which also fit neatly in the holsters on her hips.

She has a dangerous looking knife too, just to round out the arsenal. It's very tiny, smaller than the batarangs, so take extra care you don't drop it on the shag carpet.

All three figures come with the same gunmetal colored base with black connectors. You can use the base with one figure, or use the connectors to hook multiples together and make a larger base. Check out one of the previous reviews to see a photo of these small square bases.

Fun Factor - Harley ***; Batman, Superman ****
These are a lot of fun, as are most highly articulated 4" scale figures. Harley loses slightly here only because the articulation in the legs doesn't work quite as well. Kids that love the characters, whether they love the game or not, will have a great time with these.

Value - **1/2
At $20 a pop, these exclusive variants are the same price as the regular releases. That doesn't happen a lot, and while it's still just a repaint, the value is still a solid average score.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing. The figures are sturdy and well made, and swapping heads and hands wasn't particularly risky.

Overall - ***
Fans of the game will appreciate the variant colors, but kids and adults alike who have no knowledge of the game will still appreciate the articulation and sculpt quality. Hiya is doing really nice work in this scale on several licenses, and if you're a fan of the property (or others they have, like Predator or Aliens) I highly recommend checking them out.
