Introduction

One of the quirks of the One:12 Collective series of action figures from Mezco is how characters are often released. We usually see the variants and exclusives first, with the regular costume or standard design coming out later.

Such is the case with Moon Knight. We got the 'crescent edition' over six months ago, but the regular release just started shipping a few weeks ago. This standard version is available at most comic and online retailers, and will run you around $80.

Packaging - ***
The series goes with simple, elegant, clean designs for their packaging. The box is sturdy, and the interior plastic trays hold the figure and accessories safely in a very collector friendly manner. There's no instructions, but you really won't need any for the basic head and hand swaps.

Sculpting - ***1/2
These are the same two head sculpts we got with the earlier release, just in the all white color scheme.  The hooded head has a nice fabric-like texture, with plenty of detail around the eyes.  Swap in the exposed face, and you get a stern expression on a very life-like, detailed, realistic portrait.

There's some nice battle damage on the exposed face too, and it's not just painted. The tiny wound sculpts add depth, as does the excellent work on the skin and eyebrows. The raised and lowered hoods are sculpted plastic, but the surface pattern matches the fabric cape pattern extremely well, blending together nicely.

There are several pieces of hard plastic armor, including the belt, boots, and gloves. The two piece boot design looks good, but unfortunately doesn't do much for the ankle articulation. The sculpted crescent symbol on his chest looks good, and is tightly attached.

He stands about 6 1/2" tall, fitting in with the rest of the series.

Paint - ***1/2
Mezco has the production paint process down, and this figure is an excellent example. The work on the exposed face is fantastic, with shadowing for a slight beard/mustache growth, clean, vibrant eyes, and a realistic tone.

The wash on the various plastic parts isn't working quite as well for me. It's a bit sloppy, particularly on the belt, and while it brings out some of the detail, it's also distracting in some areas. There's a couple stray marks on the sculpted cloth on the unhooded head too, where they also went for a dirtier look.

Articulation - ***
While the underlying body has plenty of articulation, this is one of those costume designs that doesn't allow for a lot of it to be useful.

The ball neck is quite restricted by both hoods.  The tight fitting costume does allow for decent shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee movement, but the crunch and twist on the torso is limited.  The rotating hinge wrists and ankles are also limited by the sculpted design, even with the two piece boots. I really wish I could have gotten more forward/backward/side-to-side movement out of the feet, as it would go a long way to making deeper stances look more realistic.

As an FYI, there's no wiring in the cape.

Accessories - ***1/2
He's not super packed, but he has some nice extras.

Of course, there's the second head I already mentioned. It comes with a second hood, folded down. Swapping heads/hoods is easy, as is swapping the additional hands. He comes wearing fists, but there's a gripping set, an open set, and a set with the sculpted in-place throwing blades.

He has several additional weapons, including the staff, nunchuks, and grappling hook. The latter two have real metal chains attaching the two ends together. Finally, there's the crescent shaped 'moonarang'.

The sculpts and paint work on these tiny extras is amazing, with high quality work all around.

Outfit - ***
There are some outstanding features on this outfit, particularly with the attached vinyl. Mezco has really perfected the process of adding detail and depth to the costumes with these little cut out sections of vinyl material, and this particular costume shows off the technique to the fullest.

The sculpted armor is nice as well, as is the overall design. The cape is made from a leather-like material, and is fairly thin, but there's a lot of it. It hangs well on its own, but it does tend to bunch up around the neck quite a bit when trying to get it back over the shoulders. It's permanently attached, so don't go trying to remove it.

I also don't love the way the hood fits. There's a pretty large gap between the hood and the masked face, obvious even in hand. It's still a fairly minor nit, but it's one issue with the costume that does pull down the score.

Fun Factor - ***
You don't have quite the posability this time around, but you do get some nice extras to spice things up. And combining him with the earlier release should create a cool display.

Value - **1/2
The average price for a regular release One:12 figure right now is around $80, which is the price point for this guy. You're getting about what you'd expect for the money.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing. Of course, you'll want to have super clean hands before working with him, but other than that you should be good to go.

Overall - ***
I'm not a huge Moon Knight fan, but I am a huge One:12 Collective fan. Adding in another Marvel character, even if it's not one I care deeply about, always makes me happy.

And while the black and white design of the Crescent Edition was cool, I prefer this all white, more traditional look. Your mileage may vary.
