Introduction
We all know where the Cover Girls of the DC Universe took a very wrong turn - it's the same crossroad where the whole
company took a bad detour into the New 52. That's not completely fair - some of the story lines are quite good. But overall,
it's been a very bumpy ride, and one of the worst mistakes was going away from the original style of the Cover Girls series.
The latest release is the New 52 design of Platinum, one of the very first members of the Metal Men. As a early silver age
character, she's definitely a classic, and the new costume design for the character isn't bad.
Sadly, the prices are back up for the DC statues, with this one hitting $90 at some retailers. She's not a limited edition,
although everything is 'limited' of course.

Packaging - ***
The box is basic, with the dull white design. There's no Certificate of Authenticity - remember, not a limited edition any
more - but the interior trays are made from the better Styrofoam, and keeps the statue quite safe.

Sculpting - ***
There are certain aspects of this sculpt that I like quite a bit. she's pretty, no doubt about that, and the tilt of her
head and shoulders is just about perfect. I also like the sharp definition in the body and outfit, and the back foot rising
- or melting - into the base is a great touch.
I'm not digging the slight lean in the stance though, even if it does make sense with the melting back foot. It throws her
off balance, and just doesn't look right.
And while there's no doubt she's pretty, she this pose and design lacks the sex appeal of some of the other characters in
the line.
She fits in nicely scale-wise, coming in at just over 10" including the base.

Paint - ***
Silver is always a tough color, especially to get it consistent in coverage. They've done a nice job here, and included a
metallic appearance to the surface. There's a little clumpiness here and there, but it's fairly minor.
The only distinctly different color is in the eyes, which is a nice - and much needed - touch. That's always one of the
problems for any of the Metal Men - their coloration is just too consistent to give them much visual appeal. That's
Platinum's issue, with a clean looking overall color, but it's just too much of a good thing. She's needs something to break
up the monotony, or she ends up lost amongst the more colorful of her lady friends.

Value - **
$70 would be reasonable. $85 - $90 is not, especially considering that there's no limit to how many of these statues they
cranked out.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing.

Overall - ***
She's not a bad looking statue, although the bland color and basic stance makes here a lot more plain in appearance than
some of the other Cover Girls. The price is the real killer here - this is not a statue that's worth $90. If you can find
her sub $70, you'll feel a lot better about what you're getting.
